Few capitals in the world can rival its extraordinary past. Over centuries, Delhi attracted Mongols, Turks, Persians, Afghans, Mughals and the British, each leaving an indelible mark on its rich yet turbulent history. Such was its allure that, although abandoned several times, successive rulers returned to rebuild it, not once, but at least seven times. Today, the contrasting worlds of Old Delhi and New Delhi coexist in fascinating harmony. Together, they form the cultural and political heart of the world’s largest democracy, captivating visitors with their timeless energy and remarkable heritage.
