Additional Information

– To reach Ecolodge La Estancia will have a smooth walk up of an hour and a half. And to leave it there is walk down of half of an hour.
– Luggage transfer on Isla del Sol is done by donkeys; passengers must limit baggage to 10 kg max.
– Museums in La Paz close on Saturdays and Sundays in the afternoon also all day on Mondays and holidays.
– Rainy season: (November to April) Roads might be in bad shape. Uyuni Salt flats are flooded. Access to Pucara de Ayque or Incahuasi might be difficult or impossible. Program might have to be changed due to these reasons.
– As roads in Uyuni Region are not paved, we will use 4×4 cars, each one with a maximum of 4 passengers. To avoid high costs, guide will go in the back part of the cars if it will be necessary.
– Border services at Hito Cajón, Ollagüe, Tambo Quemado, and La Quiaca are handled by local operators and not included.

DAY 1 ARRIVAL IN LA PAZ

The El Alto Airport is currently the world’s highest international airport, situated at 4,080 meters above sea level. The transfer from the airport to the hotel is via a short highway, offering an incredible view of the La Paz basin and its city lights at night.

DAY 2 TIWANAKU RUINS (HALF DAY) - CITY TOUR - VALLE DE LA LUNA (HALF DAY)

Tiwanaku is located an hour and a half away (72 km). During the trip, the route passes through the Bolivian altiplano, where it is possible to observe the traditional lifestyle of the Aymara people. Tiwanaku was one of the oldest cultural centers in the Americas, dating approximately from 1200 BC to 1580 AD. It was considered one of the most advanced civilizations of its time. Its main constructions include the Kalasasaya Temple, with its most notable feature, the Gate of the Sun, the Ponce and Fraile monoliths, the Akapana Pyramid, and the Semi-Subterranean Temple. The tour also includes visits to two museums showcasing ceramic and stone artifacts. In the afternoon, a four-hour city tour will take place in La Paz, recognized as one of the seven wonder cities of the world. Nestled in a valley at the foot of the Royal Mountain Range of the Andes, La Paz sits at 3,632 meters above sea level. The tour includes a visit to the market area, rich in handicrafts, textiles, and items related to traditional Andean beliefs. It also covers the colonial part of the city, including San Francisco Church, the Gold Museum, Plaza Murillo, and the Killi Killi viewpoint, which offers a magnificent panoramic view of the city, as well as a replica of Tiwanaku’s Semi-Subterranean Temple. The tour continues to the modern part of the city, descending to 3,200 meters, and concludes with a visit to the Valley of the Moon, known for its impressive and whimsical formations shaped by erosion.

DAY 3 LA PAZ - UYUNI

Transfer to the airport to take the flight to Uyuni. Meeting at Uyuni Airport. Flight from La Paz to Uyuni. At 10:00 a.m., departure from Uyuni to the great salt flat. On the way, visit the Train Cemetery, where the remains of 19th- and 20th-century steam locomotives can be seen. Stop in Colchani, the best place to observe traditional salt extraction methods. Continue to Incahuasi Island (also known as Fish Island), an oasis with a unique ecosystem and a village surrounded by giant cacti reaching up to 10 meters in height. The journey continues north to visit the chullpas located at the foot of the Tunupa Volcano.

DAY 4 UYUNI - LA PAZ - ISLA DEL SOL

Transfer to Uyuni Airport for the return flight to La Paz. Flight from Uyuni to La Paz. On arrival, meeting at the airport to begin a pleasant journey in private transport heading north through the Highlands, skirting Lake Titicaca and traveling parallel to the Royal Mountain Range of the Andes toward Copacabana (3.5 hours), a charming village on the shores of the lake. Visit to the church and its famous “Virgen Morena”. Boat trip across the lake to Isla del Sol (1 hour), arriving at Huacani for an aptapi, a traditional lunch from the Altiplano. Continue by boat to Yumani to visit the Inca Steps and the Fountain of Eternal Youth. The journey then continues by boat to the ruins of the Inca temple of Pilkokaina, followed by a scenic hike (1.5 hours) to the ecolodge, offering a stunning view of Lake Titicaca.

DAY 5 LA CHINCANA - ISLA DE LA LUNA - COPACABANA - LA PAZ

Don’t miss a beautiful sunrise! Walk up the Inca steps in Yumani (30 minutes) to travel by boat to the north, visit the ruins of Chincana and Sacred Rock (1 hour). Then, the journey continues by boat to the Island of the Moon, visiting the ruins of the Inca temple of Iñak Uyu (1 hour). Finally, return to Copacabana (30 minutes) and take transportation back (3.5 hours). Take the cable car from the city of El Alto to the city of La Paz: the ride provides an excellent and beautiful view of the city. This is a must-do for every visitor in La Paz!

DAY 6 DEPARTURE

Transfer to the airport to board the flight back. Enjoy one last time the incredible view of La Paz!
