Discover our self-drive tours in Iceland including car and accommodation whether traveling one, two or almost 3 weeks. Please note that the visits and highlights mentioned in itineraries are suggested, not included. Due to the very small amount of hotel and hostel in Iceland compared to the amount of tourist in high season, the itinerary can slightly change according to availability of hotels during the tour.

IMPORTANT: Depending on the time of year some internal roads are closed because of the snow. A vehicle type 4×4 is more appropriate before June and after August if you plan to drive outside of the main roads. Note: The puffins can be seen between May and August.(Please note that Dyrholaey is closed during nesting season from May 15 until June 23 and from mid- August the puffins will have gone back to the sea!). The Northern lights can be seen from October to April.

Exclusions

Flights – Airport fees for rental pick up of 35€ on site – Road maps (as your phone apps can be used in WIFI) – Meals and drinks unless indicated in the inclusions – Travel insurances – Optional excursions– Other car supplements, such as gasoline, fees if the car is not returned to the airport, deductible in case of damage, theft, vandalism, punctures, optional insurance costs for the deductible – New tax on KM will need to be paid on site approx. 12 € per day /$20CAD at the Rental Counter – All other items not mentioned in the inclusions.

For itineraries with Landmannalaugar:

During the summer months, a parking fee has been implemented at Landmannalaugar between the hours of 8 AM and 3 PM, guests driving themselves must reserve a parking space and pay the service fee prior to arrival. The fee is around $6.00CAD per car.

Driving from Landmannalaugar can be very difficult. According to the weather forecast there can be some river crossings, and some extra insurance with the car rental will need to be paid onsite to cover the crossings. This package is only for experienced off-road drivers.

Important information regarding F-Roads in Iceland

Please note that on F-Roads in Iceland, only 4×4 vehicles are permitted.
F-roads or mountain roads (the F standing for “Fjall” which translates to “mountain”) lead you to the heartland of Iceland and are only open for a short time during summer. If you are planning on driving into the highlands, be sure that you have a four-wheel-drive jeep with good ground clearance to tackle the rough terrain and cross rivers.
Landmannalaugar is an example of an area requiring travel on F-roads, however there may be other areas in Iceland that require travel on such roads.
