Here, folk traditions are still part of everyday life. The best-known tradition, Midsummer, is celebrated towards the end of June, with traditional food, dancing and singing. Combine this authentic experience with visits to the capital, Stockholm, and Sweden’s second-largest city, Göteborg.

DAY 1 ARRIVAL IN STOCKHOLM
Arrival at Stockholm airport and pick up your rental car. Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, is built on 14 islands, so water is never far away. Well-preserved medieval buildings rub shoulders with modern architecture, and just outside the city, the archipelago of 24,000 islands begs to be explored. We recommend visiting the Vasa Museum, the Skansen open-air museum, the Town Hall, and the Old Town (Gamla Stan). There are a variety of sightseeing options available for every interest!

DAY 2 STOCKHOLM - TÄLLBERG AND THE DALARNA REGION (approx. 280km)
Departure for Tällberg and the Dalarna region. Places of interest along the way are Sigtuna, a charming, bustling little town built by the viking king Eric the Victorious. Then via Enköping, Avesta and Borlänge to Rättvik, on the shores of Lake Siljan in Dalarna. Lake Siljan and the surrounding area were created by a falling meteorite 360 million years ago. The region is very popular for its summer solstice celebrations, hand-carved wooden “Dala” horses, red wooden houses, “Falukorv” sausages, folk music groups and surrounding mountains.

DAY 3 RÄTTVIK AND THE LAKE SILJAN AREA
Day at leisure to explore the Dalarna region. Rättvik is the Swedish town where the first tourist hotel was built in 1894. The region is well worth a visit! Start your exploration with a stroll along Lake Siljan and over Långbryggan, the longest wooden lake bridge in the world. And why not go for a swim? We also recommend a visit to Mora, where you can take in the Zorn Museum. Anders Zorn is famous for his nude paintings, portraits, and watercolors. The museum presents his work as well as some pieces from his private collection. Another interesting visit is to Zorngården, the former residence of Anders and Emma Zorn.

DAY 4 LAKE SILJAN AREA
A worthwhile excursion is to the Sollerön peninsula. The local history museum consists of 12 buildings, exhibits, longships, and a trail leading to viking graves. From Sollerön you can head towards Gesunda, where you can climb to the top of the mountain and enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of Lake Siljan. From here, head south along the shores of the lake to the charming little village of Tällberg, primarily made up of wooden houses and chalets. In addition to the 200 permanent inhabitants, this village is home to many private vacation homes.

DAY 5 TÄLLBERG - KARLSTAD (approx. 235km)
Breakfast at the hotel before leaving the region. We recommend a stop in Nusnäs, just 10km from Mora. Nusnäs is the traditional home of the famous “Dala” wooden horses, Sweden’s national symbol. You’ll be able to follow the manufacturing process, from the piece of wood to the final, hand-painted painting. Continue to Karlstad, on the shores of Lake Vänern, Sweden’s largest lake.

DAY 6 KARLSTAD - GÖTEBORG (approx. 265km)
Head southwest to Göteborg, the country’s second-largest city and the natural gateway to the west. This city is characterised by its international style, local creativity, relaxed charm, nature, culture, beautiful countryside, and great shopping. Founded in 1621, Göteborg has always been a hotbed of trade, shipping, and international contacts. Today, Göteborg is a city of industry and expertise, with two universities and numerous service companies.

DAY 7 GÖTEBORG
Free day in Göteborg. We recommend a guided tour on the famous “Paddan” boats in the city center. For thrills, we suggest Northern Europe’s largest amusement park, “Liseberg”, for the whole family! In Göteborg you’ll find fashion boutiques, department stores, markets and more. The Nordstan shopping center, in the old Haga district, is one of the largest in Europe. Here you’ll find many antiques and the magnificent “Feskekôrka” covered market for freshly caught fish.

DAY 8 GÖTEBORG - STOCKHOLM (approx. 470 km)
Today, you’ll head for Stockholm and the Swedish West Coast. Once in Stockholm, you’ll have the chance to explore the country’s capital a little more and try out one or more of its excellent restaurants.

DAY 9 DEPARTURE FROM STOCKHOLM
After breakfast, return your rental car to the airport and take your departure flight home.
